Masala Library is one of the most highly successful fine dining Indian Restaurant in India. With branches in Mumbai and Delhi both doing great this place had been on my list for a long long time . And finally I visited the place in Mumbai . The restaurant is located in the corporate area of BKC or Bandra Kurla Complex . The restaurant is pretty big for a fine dining restaurant and has a very unique atmosphere and ambience. The brilliant service starts from the moment you get in with people greeting you with a smile and always helping you around . Here I tried the Chef’s Tasting Menu which was a full set meal with different courses coming in . So here is what all we tried –
* Amuse Bouche – Masala Pav done up in shape of small Balls with the bread shape given to it. Along side it was served with a mango jelly to give it a nice sweet contrast . The Masala Pav was very tasty and rustic in flavour . Lovely combination. Rating this 5/5 .

Masala Pav

* Masala Library Special Cocktail – Their super special cocktail is a Tequila Based Cocktail in a passion fruit juice base . The tequila was kept in aromatic herbs like cinnamon and star anise. Then the Tequila was light up on fire and flambed . Finally it was poured into the Passion Fruit Juice and the whole combination was just amazing . The sweet hint of passion fruit as well as the kick of tequila all while you smelled aromatic herbs in it. Just amazing. Rating this 5/5 , very innovative indeed.

Special Cocktail

* Burnt Curry Leaf Martini – An amazing Vodka Based Martini with a burnt Curry Leaf which is made into a paste. The colour of the drink is a wonderful Green. The taste is also on point and it’s very refreshing . Rating this 5/5 .

Burnt Curry Leaf Martini

* Fish Rassam Soup – Yes , you read it right . It is soup with lot of character and flavours . It has a small little Basa Dumpling which was very tasty and mildly spiced . It came with a Dosa Tuile very thin and crsipy . Until and unless the amazing Soup is poured into the bowl . The soup is a Tomato Rassam which has a hint of lemon grass. Once the Rassam is poured the whole dish is changed , full of flavour . Rating this 5/5 .

Fish Rassam Soup

* Chicken Salami Salad – Two Slices of Chicken Salami with a Chakhna or Indian Fried Pulses used to be eaten with drinks. This was a very unique combination with a nice spice and kick to increase the flavour of the dish . Very unique and tasty . Rating this 5/5 .

Chicken Salami Salad

* Quattro Formaggi Murgh Malai Tikka – A joyful dish this is . Instead of Quattro Formaggi Pizza this is a Chicken Tikka , A Malai one to be specific with 4 more types cheeses to make it more cheesey and flavourful. The result is wonderful , filled with cheese and overloading with flavours. Rating this 5/5 .

Quattro Formaggi Murgh Malai Tikka

* Naga Spiced Pork Belly – Now this was also something very different . With pork belly people expect it to be extremely tender but here it was something a bit different. Of course it was soft and tender but there was also a crispy layer on top of it which was very smokey in flavour. Really liked the way the pork belly was done . Not just that those supremely fragrant Naga Spice marination on top of the pork was just wonderful . It had a good flavour of star anise and it just really showed . Lovely dish and rating this 5/5 .

Naga Spiced Pork Belly

* Pickled Bitter gourd Keema – A very very different dish . I wouldn’t ever expect Keema with Bitter Gourd but here they served it and it was wonderful. The Bitter gourd was Pickled so it wasn’t very bitter either . The Keema was ground to perfection and the mince was just melting in the mouth . It was very nice in flavour profile and I really enjoyed it . Rating this 5/5.

Keema

* Pepper Prawn – This was another appitizer which was served. It was mildly spiced Pepper Prawns. The Pepper and aromatic spices used in this are all sourced from Thalassary from South India . The texture of the dish was very nice and the mildly spiced prawns were delicious. It was also served with Braised Pork Choy on the side to give a freshness a to the dish . Rating5/5 .

Thalassary Pepper Prawns

* Soft Shell Crab 65 – This was a very delicate dish . It was Soft Shell Crab coated in Semonela and Lightly fried . It was served with a Cherry Tomato Chutney on the side which went very well with the delicate flavours of the crab . The crab was very soft and tasted wonderful. Rating this 5/5.

Soft Shell Crab 65

* Palate Cleanser – The palate cleanser here is one of my favourite ones of all time. Here they serve a Mishti Doi Popsicle with a topping of sweet cherry on top. It’s just wonderful and the flavour of Mishti Doi is very apparent and does its job of cleansing the palate . Rating this 5/5 .

Mishti Doi Popsicle

* Stuffed Kulcha – Here with the main course you are served Naans and Kulchas . The Naans are just the usual and very tasty but the Kulchas are Stuffed with few unique ingredients. The ones which we had were the Chicken and Cheddar and the Egg Bhurji Kulchas . The Chicken and Cheddar one was nice and gooey but the Egg Bhurji or Scrambled Eggs one was just fantastic. It has a lot of flavours and tastes very good. Rating these 5/5.

Stuffed Kulcha

* Daal Makhni – When the mains arrive , each person gets a small bowl of Daal Makhni and it’s very tasty and filled with flavours. Rating these 5/5 .

Daal Makhni

* Masala Dahi – This was a Masala Curd Raita which was just amazing . It had small Bundi in it with a nice tadka wala masala in it which gives a very flavourful contrast to the curd . I really loved it so much that I had to ask the recipe . Rating this 5/5 .

Masala Raita

* Pan Seared Rawas – This is the seafood main of the set menu and it’s a true delight . It’s a big fillet of Rawas , seared to perfection served with Pui Saag crisps on top of the fish and an amazing Kashundi Curry on the side. The curry was filled with flavours like spice , sweet and sour and went extremely well with the Rawas and Parathas. I just loved the way this dish was created filled withany different flavours in one wholesome package. Rating this 5/5 .

Seared Rawas

* Butter Chicken – Now , I have heard about the Butter Chicken of Masala Library a lot and they truly make their name on this . It has San Marzano Sourced Tomatoes which have a very less acidic flavour which makes it the perfect sweet and sour ratio . It was just amazing with the really tasty tandoori chicken pieces in that amazing curry . It was extremely tasty . Rating this 5/5 .

Butter Chicken

* Chai Ice Cream – Yes, this is the Tea flavoured ice cream which they have here. It’s just amazing as it’s just a cold dollop of ice cream served in a cutting glass with ice cream which tastes like tea and it’s superb. It was topped off with a masala foam to make it look good and there were Channa Payesh and Almond Chikki on the side to enjoy with the delicious ice cream . Rating this 5/5 .

Chai Ice Cream

* Jalebi Caviar – This was the best version of Jalebi Caviar I have ever had . Very small and fine pieces of Jalebi in the Caviar form in a huge quantity with loads of sweet Rabri on the side. This dessert was not over sweet and was perfect . It was served in a conch shell and it looked really impressive . Then there was a saffron foam too on the side which was a nice addition. Rating this 5/5 .

Jalebi Caviar

United Coffee house is a classic coffee house located in CP Delhi and is one of the oldest one in town. So thinking that it has stood for so many years it must be a great place to enjoy I went here . The decor of this place is truely majestic . Service is decent paced but the prices are exorbitant for the whole experience and food.

Interiors

Went here and had –

* Cold Coffee – A very basic cold coffee and it even lacked sugar meaning sweetness was down . That’s all I have to say. Rating this 2/5 .

Cold Coffee

* Brownie Chocolate Coffee – This is there signature cold coffee and there wasn’t anything signature about it. Just some brownie on the same cold coffee and some whipped cream. No chocolate sauce at all. Rating this 3/5.

Brownie Coffee

* Cheeseballs – These were just sad and miserable . No flavour at all and there was no cheese in them either. There should have been some cheese but no it was nothing more than a dough ball. Really bad and don’t try this . Rating this 1/5.

Cheese Balls

* Liver and Bacon – A mix of liver and Bacon which was made in an Indian Dry Gravy style . This was very tasty and was served with 2 slices of breads. This was tasty but nothing out of the world either. Rating this 4/5.

Liver and Bacon

Finedinerdebo’s Tip – Very disappointed and dissatisfied from United Coffee house. Most probably won’t return here again for the bad drinks and food at an exorbitant price. This place is overhyped .Rating this place 2/5.

JW Marriott does not require any introduction as the group is present over multiple countries and is a famous 5-star and 7 Star Hotel group .

The JW MARRIOTT in Delhi is located near the airport and is focused as an airport hotel , absolutely Huge and welcoming the travellers . The Hotels grandeur is absolutely stunning . The staff is very warm and welcoming to everyone , maybe travellers or other guests too ( like us ).

They have multiple places to dine at but we went to the Multi-Cuisine Restaurant known as K3 . It is located on the far left of the lobby area of the hotel.

Towards K3

K3 actually stands for Kitchen 3 actually as the restaurant hosts 3 main kitchens which are – Oriental , Italian and Indian , sadly didn’t try their Indian as I was absolutely full by the time I had finished off with the Oriental and Italian . Even for the Oriental I just tasted a few mains but mostly stuck to the Italian kitchen . The reason behind this was the Master Chef Vincenzo Sirna from Sicily , Italy . With his grace and standards the Italian Kitchen is a on a very high league . The food in the buffet tasted like the food of ala carte which is a big thing .

For the first plate I had –

* Salads – Tried all the Non Veg salads which were on offer and the ones which stood out were the – Lamb with Chickpea Salad , Pork and Vegetables with Mustard Sauce , Egg and Snowpea Salad , Watermelon and Feta Salad and the Smoked Chicken , Pokchoy and Ricotta Cheese Salad . The Pork was super succulent and soft while the Lamb and Chickpea flavours went extremely well together . The Eggs and Snowpea Salad was very light and with very soft eggs. Then those refreshing Watermelon went very well with the delicate feta cheese . The Ricotta and Smoked Chicken was my favourite with the amazing flavours of the Ricotta and the really nice and soft Smoked Chicken . The Pokchoy was also very fresh and they have a great crunch to the dish. Rating all these 5/5 .

Nonveg Salads

* Cold Cuts – Then there were great cold cuts which were laid out wonderfully . These were served along side more cheese and sauces. The cheese which I had was Fresh Parmesan and it was out of the world. Then there was the sauce which I had is my favourite the Thousand Island Sauce.  Then the cold cuts which were there very all very fresh and tasty and consisted of – Black Forest Ham , Honey Glazed Ham , Milano Salami and fresh fish like Cured Salmon and Smoked Salmon. The best were the Honey Glazed Ham and Smoked Salmon , both very tender and tasty filled with flavours . Rating these 5/5.

Fresh Fish and Cold Cuts

* Dimsums – For more starters , this time from the Orinetal Section were the dimsums which were of 2 types – Chicken Sui Mai and Prawn Dumplings . The Chicken Sui Mai were of big size and very juicy filled with chicken flavours . The Prawn Dumplings were very very delicate and filled with really high quality soft prawns . Rating these two delicious 5/5.

Prawns Dimsums and Chicken Sui Mai

* Seafood Cake – A lightly fried seafood combination with loads of mild Chinese spices to give it a very nice mild flavour. The seafood cake was soft from the inside and crunchy from the outside the way it should be . Rating this 5/5.

* Chicken Chong Chung – A type of Cantonese style chilli chicken , not very spicy but light instead with flavours of Canton in it . The chicken was very succulent and the outer layer not too crispy but still had a small crunch to it. The spring onions added a sense of freshness to it . Rating this 5/5 .

Chicken Chong Chung and Seafood Cake

The main course dish which I had were –

* Oriental Delights – There was a whole area for Oriental Kitchen as I informed before but the real speciality were the Crispy Pork , Crispy Duck and Crispy Chicken . More like Peking Style Duck , Roasted Chicken and Char Siu (BBQ) Pork . All of these were just out of this country , literally.  These reminded me of my trip to Hong Kong and the delicious food which I had there . The Duck and the Chicken had the perfectly crispy skin and tender moist inside. The Plum Suace on which the Duck was drenched with was perfect with a light consistency and strong bold flavours of sweetness . The Pork was perfectly Barbequed and the plum sauce was just absorbed by the fat . Rating these delights 5/5 .

Oriental Delights – Chicken , Duck , Pork

* Grilled Fish – Very nice and soft Sole Fish grilled perfectly so that the outer layer is nice and crispy while the insides are soft and moist. Rating this 5/5 .

* Roasted Chicken – Another Italian speciality is there Roasted Chicken and the Chef’s prepared this perfectly . There was the Roasted Chicken which was soft from the inside and had the summer roast char on it . The Medira Jus which was with it was just perfect and had a nice strong wine flavour which really supported the Roasted flavours of the chicken. Rating this 5/5

* Baked Chicken Pizza – Something very unique . This was a full crusted Chicken Pizza and the crust was on top of toppings too. The whole pizza was then baked to perfection and the crust all over it was nice and crispy . The Baked smell and flavours were all infused into the pizza till the filling of the chicken and tasted fantastic. Rating this 5/5.

* Chicken Quiche – A perfect wuice is the only thing I can say . It was just perfectly made , no flaw at all . It was like the best quiche , baked perfectly with a golden crust and a very creamy and aerated inside filling of Chicken.  It was just absolutely amazing . Rating this 5/5 .

Continental Blasters

After all these there was a speciality . Made by the MasterChef Himself , Vincenzo Sirna from Sicily specially for me .

* The Master’s Risotto – The buffet doesn’t offer Risotto but does offer fresh pasta. But the MasterChef himself made me his special Risotto- The Risotto di Truffle  . This was made by the Masterchef himself for me specially. It was off the buffet menu but it’s his speciality and truly was mind boggling. Not just in the taste but the delicate way he handled the produce and the rigor in his artful work is truly mind blowing. The Risotto used right rice and had the perfectly creamy texture to it. The hint of wine and garlic was subtle and nice. Then it was tipped of with the truffles and Button Mushrooms both of the utmost quality . The truffles had the best flavour in the dish and went extremely well with the Parmesan on top . The mushrooms were super juicy and flavour and burst with flavours the moment my fork went in . The whole dish was perfect and challeneged any other top Risotto of Delhi. The best vegetarian Risotto I have ever had in this part of Delhi . Rating this 5/5.

Risotti Di Truffle

After eating so much and such a heart warming dish I didn’t have space for the Indian section but that had –

Indian Veg

Indian Non Veg

Then after the heart warming Meal there is desserts always necessary before deserting the place . So for desserts I had –

* Cheesecake in a Glass – Yes , that’s correct cheesecake in a glass with the base of the biscuit in the end and on top of it the cheesecake.  Also topped off with green sponge and mangos . The perfectly balance in flavour and texture was achieved in this dessert as the bite from the biscuit layer to the creaminess of the cheesecake and the sponge made a different texture to the mouth while the mangos were a little less sweet but had a nice strong sourness to balance out the sweetness of the cheesecake . Rating this 5/5.

Mango Cheesecake

* Ice Creams – Their in house Ice Cream had alot of varieties and the ones which I chose were the chocolate and the coffee . Both were magnificent , soft and very flavourful of their respective flavours . The chocolate one was Belgian chocolate ice cream while the coffee had the flavour of the roasted coffee beans . Topped them off with chocolate chips too. Rating these 5/5.

* Tiramisu – A classic Tiramisu with loads off coffee and dark chocolate Flavors. It was very soft and the flavours were very bold. Rating these 5/5 .

Tiramisu

* Caramel Custard – One of my personal favourite desserts of all time and I have many fond memories of this from Kolkata and they delivered absolutely perfectly. The texture was spot on which was super soft in texture , like SUPER DUPER SOFT ! Rating this 5/5 .

* Green Tea Sphere – This is a Matcha Or Green Tea Sphere which is very very rare and difficult to perfect . But theirs was perfect . The nice subtle flavours of the green tea combined with the white chocolate on top and biscuit in the bottom was a perfect combination . Rating this 5/5.

* Dark Chocolate Ganache Cake – A soft , super smooth Ganache turned into a cake . A full packed flavour chocolate bomb ! Rating this 5/5 .

Dessert Palate

Finedinerdebo’s Tip – This place is a fine dining restaurant no doubt but even the buffet feels like fine dining in each and every aspect . Italian is the best kitchen and MasterChef Vincenzo Sirna is a great person . Do save some space for desserts too ! Loved this place and a perfect place to celebrate , it was my aunt’s birthday and it went extremely well.

The Mixed Experience On The Waterfront

For Poila Boishak or the Bengali New Year for 2017 planned something with a twist for the family . Rather than visiting a Bengali Restaurant for the occasion I planned to visit The Lodi Hotel for a more Fancy Dinner and a Special Experience. And the Restaurant did it pretty well.

The restaurant On The Waterfront as the name suggest is set On the Waterfront of the Hotel. It looks absolutely beautiful . The Decor is absolutely modern and they even have Modern art on the Walls which are very unique and are true eye catchers . As we had reserved from prior we had our table beautifully laid out for us and the server knew about our occasion and did his best to make it a special experience. The name of the server was Yogendra and is truly a delightful guy , always happy to serve .

As we saw the menu to decide what all we should chow down on we were served Freshly Baked Breads with Fresh Tomato Salsa .

* Breads and Salsa – The Bread was a freshly baked Olive Bread served with a side of Freshly made Salsa . The Bread was heart warming as well as being very fluffy . The Salsa was very fresh as i mentioned before and the star was the Tomato. The herbs were in the background also giving the Punch but the sweetness of the Tomato really was what was brilliant . Rating this 5/5

Bread and Salsa

As we saw and decided from the menu we did chow down on those breads and even asked for another serving as it was very very tasty. We also saw the chef’s working hard on the Sushi which they were preparing fast yet carefully for the other customers. Seeing the way they prepared it we decided a Sushi is a must . With the Sushi we also wanted to have a Salad so we went ahead ordering a Salad as well for starters . The Starters and Drinks we ordered were –

* Waterfront Caipirhana – A signature Cocktail with the mixture of Gin , Fresh Pomegranate and charged up with Lemon and Cachaca . It is a Strong Drink and has a nice flavour of Gin coming through the Fresh Pomegranates. Rating this 5/5.

Waterfront Carpihana

* Surya – This is a Signature Mocktails of the restaurant and has a mixture of Lemon , Soda , Sugar Syrup ( a lot of it it the way i like it ) and Mint leaves . Sounds very basic but they pull it off very well . Rating this 5/5 .

Surya

* Sushi Platter – This is their Signature Sushi Platter which had 12 pieces of Sushi Roll and 3 Pieces of Maki Sushi . The Sushi each and everyone were the freshest fish possible and were just melting in the mouth. The 2 types of Sushi Roll were – Salmon Sushi Roll and a Spicy Tuna Roll. The Salmon Sushi Roll was a basic Sushi Roll with the Freshest Salmon inside the delicate rice and wrapped up with the finest Nori ( Seaweed). Tasted very expensive just as one should expect. Then there was the Spicy Tuna which was also on a different level. It was filled with loads of Fatty Tuna and Spicy In House Mayo which was very creamy and flavourful. Then there were the Maki Sushi which were – Octopus Maki , Seabass Maki and Teriyaki Eel . The Eel being my favorite as it was glazed perfectly with the Teriyaki Sauce . It tasted very very nice while the Eel was super soft and tender by itself. Then there was the Seabass , extremely fresh and tender . No smell of the fish but the taste of the sea was very prominent. Lastly but definitely not the least was the Ocean Octopus which tasted Superb and was also very fresh. It looked the best with it’s delicate tentacle popping out with it’s rich colours . Rating all these sushi 5/5 .

Sushi Platter

Octopus Maki , Eel Maki and Seabass Maki

* Salmon Carpaccio – This is an European Salad in which the Salmon is but thickly into Sashimi Style with a Lemon Dressing . There were Rocket Leaves , Cranberry and Fennel on the Side. The Rocket Leaves were for the crunch while the Fennel gave a bitterness to the salad which was cut out perfectly with those cranberries which were there in huge amount . The whole flavour balance very nice. The Salmon was very fresh and Delicate . You could see the stripes on the Salmon very easily . Then the capers were also for the sour element for balancing the flavours of the salmon. Rating this 5/5 .

Salmon Carpaccio

Starters – Salmon Carpaccio and Sushi Platter

After these we were served the delicious Main course which consisted of –

* Days Special Fish Off the menu – The special Fish of the Day was the John Dory and being a Bengali family Fish is very important for us and that’s one thing we had to order. It’s an off the menu special served to us specially for the day. The John Dory was Poached and served with a Lemon Caper Sauce and a special Jus. On the side there were veegetables like Pok Choy and Organic Broccoli’s . It was served also in a very unique Wooden Bowl/ Plate which looked fantastic for the dish. Rating this dish 5/5 .

Poached John Dory

* Tuscon Chicken Limone – This dish was an absolute surprise ! It looked absolutely filling . It was served with a side of Truffle Sweet Potato . That Mash was absolutely smashing and lip smacking and went very well with the tender chicken and the Tuscan Style Jus. This also came with a side of veggies like spinach , creamy mushrooms and cherry tomatoes. All in all a very very delicious dish. Rating this 5/5 as well.

Tuscon Chicken Limone

* Confit Duck Risotto – Aaah finally my dish . The Risotto Duck Confit with Fresh Parsley and Percorino Shaving was the best. It was a perfect cooked risotto with the perfect rice . It was nice and creamy while the Percorino Shaving was delightful . Just like a happy child I ate up the whole dish by myself with that perfectly cooked duck and rice. Simply loved it .

Confit Duck Risotto

Finally for desserts after an elaborate meal we just wanted something classic and light and what better than –

* Classic Tiramisu – This is just like any classic Tiramisu , Light and Fluffy with the Punchy Flavours of Coffee and Dark Chocolate ( all thanks to more Dark Chocolate Shavings on the Top ) making it even better . The roasted coffee beans on the side also gave to the presentation as well as the taste of original coffee beans. Then there was the Chocolate Spoon which is edible and essential to be eaten with the Tiramisu to balance out flavours and add creamyness too. Rating this 5/5 .

Tiramisu

For this whole experience I am really thankful to The Lodi Hotel and it’s staff at On The Waterfront . From the food to the service to the ambience everything was just perfect ! A full 5/5 hotel as well as a 5/5 restaurant .
