Masala Library is one of the most highly successful fine dining Indian Restaurant in India. With branches in Mumbai and Delhi both doing great this place had been on my list for a long long time . And finally I visited the place in Mumbai . The restaurant is located in the corporate area of BKC or Bandra Kurla Complex . The restaurant is pretty big for a fine dining restaurant and has a very unique atmosphere and ambience. The brilliant service starts from the moment you get in with people greeting you with a smile and always helping you around . Here I tried the Chef’s Tasting Menu which was a full set meal with different courses coming in . So here is what all we tried –
* Amuse Bouche – Masala Pav done up in shape of small Balls with the bread shape given to it. Along side it was served with a mango jelly to give it a nice sweet contrast . The Masala Pav was very tasty and rustic in flavour . Lovely combination. Rating this 5/5 .

* Masala Library Special Cocktail – Their super special cocktail is a Tequila Based Cocktail in a passion fruit juice base . The tequila was kept in aromatic herbs like cinnamon and star anise. Then the Tequila was light up on fire and flambed . Finally it was poured into the Passion Fruit Juice and the whole combination was just amazing . The sweet hint of passion fruit as well as the kick of tequila all while you smelled aromatic herbs in it. Just amazing. Rating this 5/5 , very innovative indeed.

* Burnt Curry Leaf Martini – An amazing Vodka Based Martini with a burnt Curry Leaf which is made into a paste. The colour of the drink is a wonderful Green. The taste is also on point and it’s very refreshing . Rating this 5/5 .

* Fish Rassam Soup – Yes , you read it right . It is soup with lot of character and flavours . It has a small little Basa Dumpling which was very tasty and mildly spiced . It came with a Dosa Tuile very thin and crsipy . Until and unless the amazing Soup is poured into the bowl . The soup is a Tomato Rassam which has a hint of lemon grass. Once the Rassam is poured the whole dish is changed , full of flavour . Rating this 5/5 .

* Chicken Salami Salad – Two Slices of Chicken Salami with a Chakhna or Indian Fried Pulses used to be eaten with drinks. This was a very unique combination with a nice spice and kick to increase the flavour of the dish . Very unique and tasty . Rating this 5/5 .

* Quattro Formaggi Murgh Malai Tikka – A joyful dish this is . Instead of Quattro Formaggi Pizza this is a Chicken Tikka , A Malai one to be specific with 4 more types cheeses to make it more cheesey and flavourful. The result is wonderful , filled with cheese and overloading with flavours. Rating this 5/5 .

* Naga Spiced Pork Belly – Now this was also something very different . With pork belly people expect it to be extremely tender but here it was something a bit different. Of course it was soft and tender but there was also a crispy layer on top of it which was very smokey in flavour. Really liked the way the pork belly was done . Not just that those supremely fragrant Naga Spice marination on top of the pork was just wonderful . It had a good flavour of star anise and it just really showed . Lovely dish and rating this 5/5 .

* Pickled Bitter gourd Keema – A very very different dish . I wouldn’t ever expect Keema with Bitter Gourd but here they served it and it was wonderful. The Bitter gourd was Pickled so it wasn’t very bitter either . The Keema was ground to perfection and the mince was just melting in the mouth . It was very nice in flavour profile and I really enjoyed it . Rating this 5/5.

* Pepper Prawn – This was another appitizer which was served. It was mildly spiced Pepper Prawns. The Pepper and aromatic spices used in this are all sourced from Thalassary from South India . The texture of the dish was very nice and the mildly spiced prawns were delicious. It was also served with Braised Pork Choy on the side to give a freshness a to the dish . Rating5/5 .

* Soft Shell Crab 65 – This was a very delicate dish . It was Soft Shell Crab coated in Semonela and Lightly fried . It was served with a Cherry Tomato Chutney on the side which went very well with the delicate flavours of the crab . The crab was very soft and tasted wonderful. Rating this 5/5.

* Palate Cleanser – The palate cleanser here is one of my favourite ones of all time. Here they serve a Mishti Doi Popsicle with a topping of sweet cherry on top. It’s just wonderful and the flavour of Mishti Doi is very apparent and does its job of cleansing the palate . Rating this 5/5 .

* Stuffed Kulcha – Here with the main course you are served Naans and Kulchas . The Naans are just the usual and very tasty but the Kulchas are Stuffed with few unique ingredients. The ones which we had were the Chicken and Cheddar and the Egg Bhurji Kulchas . The Chicken and Cheddar one was nice and gooey but the Egg Bhurji or Scrambled Eggs one was just fantastic. It has a lot of flavours and tastes very good. Rating these 5/5.

* Daal Makhni – When the mains arrive , each person gets a small bowl of Daal Makhni and it’s very tasty and filled with flavours. Rating these 5/5 .

* Masala Dahi – This was a Masala Curd Raita which was just amazing . It had small Bundi in it with a nice tadka wala masala in it which gives a very flavourful contrast to the curd . I really loved it so much that I had to ask the recipe . Rating this 5/5 .

* Pan Seared Rawas – This is the seafood main of the set menu and it’s a true delight . It’s a big fillet of Rawas , seared to perfection served with Pui Saag crisps on top of the fish and an amazing Kashundi Curry on the side. The curry was filled with flavours like spice , sweet and sour and went extremely well with the Rawas and Parathas. I just loved the way this dish was created filled withany different flavours in one wholesome package. Rating this 5/5 .

* Butter Chicken – Now , I have heard about the Butter Chicken of Masala Library a lot and they truly make their name on this . It has San Marzano Sourced Tomatoes which have a very less acidic flavour which makes it the perfect sweet and sour ratio . It was just amazing with the really tasty tandoori chicken pieces in that amazing curry . It was extremely tasty . Rating this 5/5 .

Butter Chicken

* Chai Ice Cream – Yes, this is the Tea flavoured ice cream which they have here. It’s just amazing as it’s just a cold dollop of ice cream served in a cutting glass with ice cream which tastes like tea and it’s superb. It was topped off with a masala foam to make it look good and there were Channa Payesh and Almond Chikki on the side to enjoy with the delicious ice cream . Rating this 5/5 .

Chai Ice Cream

* Jalebi Caviar – This was the best version of Jalebi Caviar I have ever had . Very small and fine pieces of Jalebi in the Caviar form in a huge quantity with loads of sweet Rabri on the side. This dessert was not over sweet and was perfect . It was served in a conch shell and it looked really impressive . Then there was a saffron foam too on the side which was a nice addition. Rating this 5/5 .
